Oh, Ohio… what are you doing?

Well, I didn’t expect Kasich’s decision to come so soon after my post last night but I woke up this morning (Korea time) to find that Kasich had vetoed the “heartbeat bill”. Great, right? Well, unfortunately he passed the “20 weeks bill”, which when you simply compare it to a 6 week abortion ban sounds fine. People need to look deeper.

I did more research on it last night. This new Ohio law does not make an exception for pregnancies that resulted from rape or incest. It also doesn’t make an exception for severe fetal anomalies, though it does make an exception only if the mother is going to die or is suffering from organ failure as a result of the pregnancy. This means that women, like Meridith Isaken (whose op-ed went viral after of the presidential debates), whose to-be babies would suffer immense pain until they die shortly after childbirth will be forced to carry to term or spend incredible amounts of money to travel to states with less strict laws.
